Living Life for Christ Alone

"...I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God's mysterious plan, which is...." (Colossians 2:2) How would you finish that sentence?  I think some might launch into a long theological answer. Others might simply say, "to get glory for Himself."  Some might recite some creed they memorized a long time ago. Still more might be stumped and say nothing. Another might talk about the big dreams they believe God has for them. I'm not saying none of these are good or needed.... But what if God's mysterious plan was something incredibly simple?  What if He wants us to get our focus off of doctrine and theology alone and onto something far deeper, that touches the heart?  What if He wants us to stop pursuing some incredibly high calling, or spiritual greatness and turn our attention elsewhere?  What if He means for us to be completely awestruck with His mysterious plan because it's incredibly simple, yet profound?  Alright, alright... wha...

"You see me when I travel, and when I rest at home. You know everything I do." -Psalm 139:3 Life gets pretty frustrating at times, doesn't it?  I was feeling that way about the mundane; done with it. Then I asked God, "what am I missing?" He reminded me of this Psalm. When I got to verse three, I had to stop and read the last phrase again.  "You know everything I do."    Doesn't that mean that He sees and knows about the things that frustrate me? He knows I'm frustrated because of their lack of "importance"?

I need to tell you about the title of this blog. Partly because I have forgotten about it and just noticed afresh what it's called. "What, you forgot the name of your blog?" you ask. Well, yes... and no. I just forgot what it means to me, what it ought to mean every time I wake up in the morning, when I lie down at night.... what it ought to mean all the time. First, living for Christ alone means exactly that. So this should not take too long to explain. :) Living:  In other words, not being in a dead, un-moving state. It's growing. It's walking. It's being. Being everything you are meant to be. Are you alive? If you're not, do you want to be?

Nothing.  That's all it was. But soon that nothingness was radically changed, simply by a command.  "Let there be light," and there was light. Within six days, nothing became something. Something incredible. Sky, earth, stars, sea, animals, fish, insects, plants... and best of all, humans. Made in the image and likeness of their Maker. He looked over His creation, pleased. "It is good."

As I approached Him, I held in my hand everything that belonged to me. At first, I was doubtful as to whether or not this was a good idea. Give Him everything? What would He do with it? Could I trust Him? I grasped it tightly as every step I took brought me closer to the Throne of Grace. And then that battle took place. "Do you really want to give it to Him?" A voice inside my head seamed to ask.  "Well..." I searched for an answer. I knew it was the right thing to do, but doing it was getting harder and harder.
