A Better Way

“Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by... They all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them...” (Mark 7:40-50)

Child of God, do you feel as though you are straining against the winds of life to accomplish God’s will? He sees you. Perhaps you feel too engrossed in summoning all your strength to make it one step farther in the direction He has commanded.

Perhaps you haven’t even thought to ask the question, “Does He see me?”

The winds and waves oppose you mightily, and you strive with everything in you not to be pushed backwards. But Jesus sees you. You are deeply loved by Him.

Maybe you are asking yourself, “Where is He? Why did He not come with me?”

But the reality is, His is there. His response to this struggle is always to come close to you. But He doesn’t fight the winds and waves the way you do with all your natural strength.

He does it another way –a better way. He defies the natural realm with supernatural strength. If you were to watch in awestruck silence, you would see Him walk all the way to your destination without a struggle, above the waves -not at all threatened by the wind, for He desires to show you a better way.

But because you are afraid, He will stop and talk with you. He will not pass you by, though He would have. He knows you might not be ready to learn to walk on the waves with Him yet, so He comes to you, gets into your boat, and calms the sea.

Oh, child of God, when will you defy the natural realm with Him and walk on the waves? When will you stand up to fear and allow His supernatural strength to propel you forward instead of your own limited, natural strength?

Grab ahold of faith and ask Jesus to give you glimpses of Him walking above your life’s many waves, and when you see Him, dare Him to call you to Himself. He is waiting to show you that you don’t have to fight the storms of life with natural strength. You, too, can walk on the water with Jesus by your side.
