The Most Important Page on My Blog

Let's just say that you died.

Think about it. Does the idea of dying scare you?

Let's say you died and were standing at the gates of heaven. You hear God's voice from the other side of the gates, asking you, "why should I let you into my heaven?" You begin to tremble as you realize you actually have to have a good reason for getting in....

What would your answer be?

You probably are thinking one of several answers I've heard many times before. I'll name a few...

"I'm a pretty good person....[Insert everything good you've done]."

"I believe in God and I love Him."

"God shouldn't let me into heaven. I'm a pretty bad person."

"I think God is good, so He should let me into heaven. I don't think there is any such thing as Hell."

"I don't know."

...Do any of those resonate with what you are thinking right now?

I call this page the most important page for a reason. I'm talking about your eternal destiny. If you had any of those answers above, by now I suspect you must have an unsettling feeling as you realize that you really aren't sure God is going to let you into heaven.

How good do you have to be in order to be allowed into God's most holy, perfect presence on a scale of 1 (being evil) to 10 (being perfect)?

Usually someone will give me a 6 or 7 on that scale. It's more good than bad, so it's reasonable, right? God knows we can't be perfect anyway. Let's face it. We all make mistakes!

What if God's prerequisite for getting into heaven is higher than you guessed? Don't you want to know what it is?

"Sandie, what do you think it is?" You might be asking.

I'm not going to tell you what I think it is. Instead, I'll tell you what God says it is. Ready?
"[God] will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers." (Romans 2:7)
Maybe you read that and gave a small sigh of relief. "Ok. I'm trying to do good, so I think I may get eternal life."

But God's requirement when He says "keep on doing good" means obey the whole law and don't disobey even a little bit of it.
"...The person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God's laws." (James 2:10)
Now perhaps you're thinking, "I haven't really broken any of God's laws that I know of!"

Can I test that claim? Let me name of few of God's laws:
1. "I am the Lord your God...You must not have any other God but me." (Exodus 20:2-3)
-This is not just talking about building a little idol in your house and bowing down to it. It's talking about loving something or someone more than or as much as you love God. Ouch.

2. "You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God." (Exodus 20:7)
-Ever used God's name as a curse word? Ouch.

3. "Honor your father and mother." (Exodus 20:12)
-This one kind of speaks for itself.... :/

4. "You must not murder." (Exodus 20:13)
-Jesus took this one a little further and said, "...Our ancestors were told, 'you must not murder,' ...But I say, 'If you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell." (Matthew 5:22-23)
-Ever been angry with someone or cursed someone? Jesus said that it is in the same category as murder, because murder starts in the heart. Whoa... This is serious stuff in God's sight.

5. "You must not commit adultery." (Exodus 20:14)
-Jesus also took this one a little farther and said, "You have heard the commandment...'You must not commit adultery.' But I say, 'anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.'" (Matthew 5: 27-28)
-I don't need to name what this would include, because by now you get His point. Adultery starts in the heart. Ever done it?

6. "You must not steal." (Exodus 20:15)
-Ever taken anything that didn't belong to you? Even something small? God saw that.

7. "You must not testify falsely against your neighbor." (Exodus 20:16)
-Ever told a lie? Even a white lie?

...There are more commandments. But I thought I'd just elaborate on these few. How did you do?

God said that even if you only broke one, it makes you as guilty in His sight as if you've broken all of them. This is not good for any of us then, is it?

Worse yet, God is so holy that He can't have any sin whatsoever in His presence. If you were to meet Him in the state you are in, you would die instantly with no hope of recovery. Trying to mix His holiness with your sin is like trying to mix oil and water. It doesn't mix. It stays separated, no matter how much you might try to mix it. That doesn't leave a lot of hope for you and I...

God says in His word that "The wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23) Death is eternal separation from God in a place called hell. This means that you and I were born destined to die and go to hell, with absolutely no hope, unless God Himself intervened.

...There is hope, because God Himself did intervene.

"None of them can by any means redeem his brother nor give to God a ransom for him." (Psalm 49:7) My sin is enough to send me to hell. Your sin is enough to send you to hell. So we can't pay for each other's sin. It's impossible.

BUT -and such an important but- God, who is love itself, saw our hopeless predicament, and sent His one and only Son -God in the form of human flesh- Jesus, whose name means God with us.

Jesus lived a perfect life, no sin whatsoever. He was God in the flesh. Since God is just, He had to punish someone for our sin, so He punished His own Son.

Jesus was nailed to a cross, He was beaten, He was bruised, He was whipped, He was mocked, His body torn, His blood lost.... All because of our sin. He was treated like a criminal, not because He was guilty, but because we are guilty and can do nothing about it.
"This is real love -not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins." (1 John 4:10)
But He didn't stay dead! Three days later He rose from the dead, proving that even death can't defeat Jesus, the King of Kings! He is alive today and He is living to give you the gift of forgiveness and freedom from your sin and the awful death that awaits you!

You might be thinking, "I don't deserve this." No, you don't, but that's why God calls it grace. It is God giving us something we absolutely do not deserve. God longs to give this gift to you. The only thing keeping you from having it is you.

All God wants you to do is repent (change your mind about your beliefs, realize you are a sinner) and accept His gift of eternal life through His Son Jesus.
"...If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)
Confess means that you say with your mouth what you're already being convinced of in your heart. Tell God right now that you realize you are a sinner in need of a Savior, Jesus. Thank Jesus for what He went through on your behalf and this wonderful gift of salvation!

Know this, if you have accepted this gift by faith, you have eternal life, and you have been made a child of God!
"Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ [the only Savior who can take care of your sin problem], has become a child of God..." -1 John 5:1
...I'd love to pray for you if you are thinking about making this decision or have made this decision! Please contact me in the contact form below!

This gift has completely changed my life! I am blessed to have Jesus as my Savior, my Friend, and to have God as my Father... You will be too, if you decide to accept this wonderful gift. :)
